anyone can become homeless. They've got nothing left and its not that easy to just get back to work! I worked with homeless people over xmas and most are very intelligent people who simply lost their jobs and homes in a matter of just a few weeks. Most want to work and go back to a nice warm home in the evening but they have become the rejects of our society. Nobody wants to help them or employ them.

My grandfather was born in a 'Workhouse' (a kind of refuge) because his father deserted his mother which left her destitute. Homelessness can happen through redundancy, home reposession, mental illness, relationship breakdown, gambling addiction, army demobilisation, traumatic events and when the economy dives. It is very hard to hold the homeless responsible for all misfortune. But the point about not giving money is a fair one. Offer a choice of sandwiches and drinks and go buy them.
