She doesn't sing too bad. How come she was never given any solo spot on Speed's hits.

she sung a little bit (alone) in Long Way Home.
but that was the last single from SPEED.
but.... SPEED has come back to the scene!! so,
lets hope Hitoe and Takako will have more solo spots!!!

Their latest single is the same as all those early hits. Hiro and Eriko duopolize all the important solo lines. H and E are much better singers than Hitoe and Takako, yes, but still a couple of lines here and there should be OK. BTW, Takako is by far the worst singer among the 4, not Hitoe. After Long Way Home, Speed had several singles : Be My Love, Walking in the Rain etc.

It's because Eriko and Hiro's voices harmonized whereas Hitoe's and Takako's were too unique. In addiiton, Eriko and Hiro could sing better and could hit the high notes characteristic of Hiromasa Ijichi's songs. The pure arrangement of the group was that Eriko and Hiro would do the lead singing and Hitoe and Taka would back them up dancing. I liked it that way :o) Hitoe is by far the best dancer in the group though!!!

You're too kind calling their voices *unique*. Hitoe and Takako can't really sing esp Takako. But since Speed is a 4some, no harm and only logical in granting H and T some lines. They released their solo singles anyway. The Japanese obviously have developed hi-level of tolerance for subpar singing from their young idols.

Haha I agree but I think Takako's voice improved significantly after Glory. Hitoe's voice is raspy - kinda like T-boz from TLC. Strange though that Taka's solo career has been more successful than Eriko's. Japan is more obsessed with youth, beauty, style and the idol itself than the actual singing. Ayumi Hamasaki is a great exam. Her voice wasn't great and she couldn't dance but she was so popular for some reason.

Well said. The japanese don't care how their singers sing but how they look and dress. That's how we have vocal disasters like Leah dizon and suzuki ayumi.

Thanks. To be honest I think Suzuki Ami and Leah Dizon are fine. I really like how Suzuki Ami stood up for herself when she sued Sony for only paying her less than $25,000 a year despite her pulling in millions for them. More of a disaster are the Johnnny's boy bands and Hello Projects. The most peculiar thing about Japan is this - notice how there aren't any standout male solo singers (besides Ken Hirai)? The top 10 selling albums of all time are dominated by women and rock bands.
