Hitoe/Samurai Throw/Weapon Rentention

This is a classical Japanese Jiu Jitsu Throw that can be used for modern side arm weapon retention. It was originally used to protect the samurai's sword.

Nice Suki Nage. I believe it is important in this technique to break the kuzushi/balance by coming up on the uki/attacker. Weapon retension is a must, great technique presentation.

Yes you can! I was working this same Technique with a person going after the sidearm. You can wrap the oppisite arm around and pull him in close so you can get the sweep!

I can see how you might say that but the Tani, the nage usually faces the uke and bears his leg all the way to the ground. I know it could be considered a "kokyonage" in aikido circles.

Only because everything that doesn't have any other name is called kokyunage. *chuckle* It does *vaguely* resemble the morotedori kokyuho I practice every training session though.
