Hans Rosling: No more boring data: TEDTalks

Back

With the drama and urgency of a sportscaster, statistics guru Hans Rosling uses an amazing new presentation tool, Gapminder, to debunk several myths about world development. Rosling is professor of international health at Sweden's Karolinska Institute, and founder of Gapminder, a nonprofit that brings vital global data to life. (Recorded February 2006 in Monterey, CA.)

Well, he show us SOME data that looks fine, but not all data. He is simplifying a world that is much more complex that he makes it sound. People want to hear the good news, not the bad. Do you know what I mean? Statistics can be very subjective, if it's presented in the way he does. Google up everything he claims, and you will find counterproofs. I'm sorry to sound like a cynical.

I agree. I get a kind of uneasy feeling when I hear this argument.

Well, he show us SOME data, the data that looks fine. He is simplifying a world that is much more complex that he makes it sound. I honestly think he is a big threat to humanity, I don't know what else to say. People want to hear the good news, not the bad. Do you know what I mean? Statistics can be very subjective, if it's presented in the way he does. Google up everything he claims, and you will find counterproofs. Sorry.

amazing idea, have to keep your eyes on the scale of the axis' on all the graphs, i forget the word for it, but it doesn't increase constantly, it goes 10, 100, 1000, 10000 etc. Can be misleading...

Extraordinary insights can be acheived if you visualize the data appropriately. Excellent presentation!
