True guys, at the end of the day, its the music that spks or works, but by no means his hein league with the greats..who knows, i suppose they said the same thing about John williams when comparing to the old classical geniuses i.e Beethoven or contemporaries 'Gustav holst', BUT i'm comparing him to the likes of lalo schifrin, J Williams, Elmer Bernstein, Morricone. Nino Rota, Jerry Goldsmith.

hans you're great. and one of the reason why I'm doing the job I do today.
Even if you share credits, use additionnal composers , I don't consider this as a problem unlike bally28... What matter the most is the music , if its good then who cares how its made ? Every composers in hollywood are using orchestrators or additionnal writers , but dont admit it unlike Hans.
Im still in love with his music , he always make at least one good ( or great ) score every year.
Romain , ;)

Collaboration is good, but i think credit is worth more in it's weight of gold as a sole composer...
You see...'you' Johncarter .."you love his music"...BUT the prob his, did he write it?? there's a good 70% chance you maybe wasting your feelings, and a good chance you have to thank another composer for your interest in Composing/job!

I reacted like you when seeing the credits of pirates of the caribbean 3 . But after I changed my mind, because simply if you like the music whats the problem. Hans is largely capable of writing a score like pirates of the caribbean alone ( he proved it in the past with scores like Crimson Tide, BackDraft, Prince of egypt , lion king which he wrote alone with help of orchestrators like EVERY composers even goldsmith )

I dont have lot of proofs about his writing capabilities,, except some videos here and there, where you can see him composing music.
But I do have one big proof : listen to additionnal composers solo scores like ramin djawadi, lorne balfe , henry jackman , geoff zanelli, steve jablonsky , james dooley, atli orvarsson , nick glennie smith ,klaus badelt, harry gregson williams, john powell...
Take all this list : only a few are VERY good.

yes they're all from the 'sound like zimmer' School of rock. : ) Anyway i understand they've made thanks to Zimmer. Which is kind of him.

Don't criticise unless you're better. IMO His reputation can't come from being the shittiest composer of the century as you say between the lines. Accusing someone of things like you say is unfair, 'cause these things probably are things & opinions you heard from others, not things you figured out yourself..
bally28 (January 3, 2009 at 11:14 am)
i do think he gets more credit than he deserves, perhaps his earlier scores were more fresh. I just sense he's a little lazy now..come on how many times does he share credits? Anyway i don't feel any love nor does he in his music anymore. I think he's a very successful business man thats all.
Deterior666 (January 5, 2009 at 11:42 am)
On some points you're right, he does make profit out of others sometimes (like the pirates of the caribbean theme that is made for a big part by Klaus Bedelt)but with sharing credits is nothing wrong (unless you did nothing and don't deserve any of the credits, but that's not the case). & You don't survive in the musicworld if you're not a bit of a business man imho.
