why doesnt the USA use natural gas? I use it here in Poland and I can drive 50mph, have the heater on, the radio on, the lights on and its more efficient than petrol

Some cars are set up for natural gas, but they haven't seemed to have caught on. One reason, possibly, is that we are set up for gasoline mainly and diesel, too. I'm surprised that you say natural gas is more efficient that petrol. Do you have the numbers for that?
WKaliber1 (December 17, 2008 at 11:18 am)
but you can set up a natural gas tank in the back of your vehicle or next to your spare tire
then you can drive both on gasoline AND natural gas, depending on which one you choose
I can say its more efficient I see that I can drive a much larger distance with the equivalent amount of gas than I ever could with the same amount of petrol, about 25-30 kilometers on average

Oh, yes . . . . that should have been obvious. Come to think of it I think that is how the natural gas cars are designed to run.

unfortunately, your leaders are puppets and the oil companies have them in the palm of their hands
oilhammer04 (December 17, 2008 at 3:27 pm)
If that's true then why can't the companies drill in more reserve areas?
WKaliber1 (December 17, 2008 at 5:42 pm)
there is more money in it when it comes from abroad cause the middle man gets some of the share too

Natural Gas is a good and feasible alterative, but it should only be a gateway fuel to a more sustainable vehicle. Natural still emits Greenhouse Gases, if your were to replace every Coal fired power station with Natural Gas stations, you would only reduce GHGs by 30 %, not enough. Hybird air-electric cars are the solution. The future should have diverse power sources, no m,ore monopolies.
WKaliber1 (December 22, 2008 at 12:44 pm)
I'm not talking about Greenhouse Gases, I'm talking about losing the dependence on oil which is the essential step to electric cars. There are already quite a few cars, made by Honda of course, that run on Hydrogen and emit...water.
kiriakufromcyprus (December 22, 2008 at 10:26 pm)
And besides, ther's only enough Natural Gas reserves to last 90 years by current standards, and if it replaced oil, it would probably run out before oil does. But I get your point.
