The Huey Iroquois helicopter have straps on the seats and on the floor. And it's fairly easy to hold on given the physics of flight. As long as you have forward motion and a coordinated turn, downwards force should almost cancel out the force pushing you into the turn. "Almost"...and that's where the straps come in :).

And that's why you don't feel the tilt of an airplane when it's banking left or right.

Look at the scene from 4:33...where the chopper is airborn an Doc is talking to the wounded G.I The Chopper looks slanted for christ sakes, none of them looked strapped to a belt. The guy behind doc is just kneeling comfortably while the guy sitting behind him is just....well, getting a cool breeze from the wind, while the vietcongs are trying to shoot him down like a frisbee thrown in the air....hollywood is really f ucked up you know.

Good point blain, about the part of a closed door stopping a bullet, which is another thing. I cannot remember one vietnam movie that i've seen where they hurried it up to shut the door when they were under fire, seriously. I understand they kept the doors open until the last man can be saved but nce he got in, they kept the door opened while being fired on and they flew off. I can't also remember any of them ducking or taking cover when they were sitting ducks in a bunch...

You have to remember that the "doors always open" is a hollywood thing to. Guess it makes the scene more dramatic but a lot of times they wouldn't even open the doors until they were about to get off. Also it has been proven that a closed door will stop a bullet better than an open one :) Its all Hollywood...:)
