There's an anonymous weakling spreading posts at YouTube under my name. Laughable.

Highly enjoyable video, by the way. Thanks in spades.

It is true. They had to change the openning with Doc Severinson to make the introductions work. Origianlly, each man was supposed to be introduced and walk out on stage. Gene was introduced first and hit the deck as he tried to walk out.

Folks keep talking about Charlie Christian. Hell, has anyone here ever heard of Margarie Haymes? She played so much better than Christian.

The year is 1972.

I think I mentioned that earlier that I was at this concert. Gene passed out from the leukemia that killed him the next year just before going onstage. Stage hands carried him to his drums. The group actually played about 10 numbers. Benny did not give Gene a solo until the last number. What do people expect from the man? The skill is still there!

Hello,
I really like this video but at 2:20 the hihat on the drums moves to double time, yet gene stays at 1/2 time. If he was sick, was there another drummer plaing off stage?

No, Gene was simply doing the very easy bit of doubling up your sock cymbal time while staying in the original tempo with your bass drum and hands. You can also do this by doubling up you hands and leaving everything else the same. Nothing to it.
