Thanks for sharing your lovebird family with us. I'd thought of getting one, but wasn't sure I could endure their "talking." Ended up with a parakeet instead, and I love him very much.

If they are yellow with a blue tail then they are cinnamons, they are not called African Cinnamons since the mutation originated in Australia. If they are yellow, red face with a white tail, then they are lutinos.

Had one too who passed away this week of old age :( His name was Marley. Funny how he got his name. Couldn't decide on a good name for him, when he started singing on a song he heard on the radio. It was a song by Bob Marley and it just stuck. Next year I'm going to look if I can purchase a new one. Maybe 2 of them. Thinking about looking for Fischers, they look so nice.

Most lovebirds, including the peachface lovebird are sexually monomorphic. That means that you cannot tell the gender by looking at them. (Although some people, do try by looking at the vent spacing.)

DNA-sexing is only $25 and you just pop off a few feathers, place it in the collection bag & mail it off to the company.

My quaker parrot was DNA-sex by his breeder. Quick, easy vola I had my male quaker. (Personal preference.)

I've had both male & female lovebirds, they are all the same.

No you don't need to keep them in pairs, that's a myth...

While you can keep them in pairs if you want, most of the time it's better to start out with a single handfed baby. They make the BEST pet's in the avian (bird) world.

I always tell people :: You want a small parrot to love you until the end of time? Purchase a handfed baby lovebird! You cannot go wrong with one of them. (Except make sure to play with your baby daily.)

I want to add one to the house so badly! {No breeders here.}

Just because a baby is hand fed does not guarantee a tame bird. After weaning, most birds forget that they were even hand fed. Do you remember Mom feeding you? I don't. All hand feeding does is gets a bird use to humans. This is called imprinting. It is ironic that hand fed birds bite harder than non hand feds because they have no fear of humans. Socialization is the key to a tame bird. I have had wild-caught parrots and hand fed babies with the same level of tameness. Socialization!
