It's a true story. He was in a LOT of trouble, actually. I disobeyed a direct order by ordering his men to conduct a punitive session involving the assault of a Marine in his charge that resulted in Said Name Marine's Death. I am a US Marine and I can assure you that's prison-worthy.

Jessup wouldn't be in that much trouble, his career would probably be over. But he could only at most be found guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice. However he was under duress was he not, he was being badgered by the defense whom the judge had already found in contempt of court, I wonder what would have become of Jessup if you used that defense.

perjury and obstruction of justice not enough. Jessup might well be criminally liable for Santiago's death, since he admittedly encouraged the practice of an otherwise unlawful and negligent disciplinary process that resulted in death.

And seting any deep, ideology thoughts aside - look at the Nicholson's expression when he's saying: "we use words like: honor, code, loyalty..." - he definitely fooled me that he is a USMC colonel. Academy award worthy performance. Stunning.
