This is the best part of the film. Love the beat; such a beautiful scene. And mysterious...

The Petroleum jelly is one of Barney's signature materials. It started from his sports/sexuality pieces early in this career. Here he makes a link to oil, whaling, and once again sexuality.

this is the second best part of the movie, after the "each-other-self-killing".

At the end of the movie, I kind of thought "Did I really just sit through 2 and a half hours of apparent nothing for them to TURN INTO WHALES?!?"

But it's an amazingly beautiful movie and, if nothing else, I'm a big believer in the aesthetics of art. I would rather have a gallery full of incredibly beautiful artworks than one full of Mars bar wrappers filled with vomit that apparently have some "higher meaning".

But, yes; it's a bit difficult to get into. But great!
