damn it Carreras, why did you force your voice in your early career. He really became a shadow of his former self.

Catarí, Catarí
¿porque me dices estas palabras amargas?
¿porque me hablas y el corazón me atormentas
Catarí?
No te olvides que te he dado mi corazón Catarì
No te olvides
Catarí Catarí ¿que dices?
Tu hablar me lastima
Tu no piensas en mi dolor
Tu no piensas, no te importa
Corazòn Corazòn ingrato
te tomaste mi vida
Todo ha pasado
y ya no piensas mas en mi

Maestro Carreras e' stato ed e' ancora un grande tenore.

Either you can't read or you're tone deaf, this song is in Eb which makes the high note at the end a Bb. I've sung this song many times in concert and my Bb is clear and not strangled. Most educated people of opera admit Jose's upper register was a big problem, but the rest of the voice is beautiful.

to spgtenor, can you please explain your last sentence, when you say the mezza voice is more difficult? I've never heard anyone say that before. I don't know anything about voices since I'm not a singer nor a musician but the strength and beauty of Carreras' mid-range is why I like him so much.

Mezza voce means "half voice" instead of full voice. This requires skill, control and finesse for a tenor in the upper register without going into falsetto, and when done well is breathtaking. Pavarotti could never do it well, but a good example is Nicolai Gedda in "Je Crois" from The Pearl Fishers, check it out on youtube.

Thank you for the explanation of mezza voce, spgtenor. I did listen to Nicolai Gedda in "Je Crois"...and it is very beautiful...very fine high notes, however I am not particularly a high note fan, I prefer a darker tenor voice like Carreras, just my preference.

That performance venue is the Gran Teatre del Liceu, opera house in Barcelona.
