The song is about youth, love, life, nature and water. Elitsa sings about a girl named Mitra. The girl is singing while swimming in a mountain river. Heavy rain is falling! While the girl is singing, a young cowboy is riding his horse near by. He hears her lovely song and goes by her. And then they fall in love! Lightnings! Crashes of thunders! And at the end they're havin' you know.... Tara-du-day duu-dara tara-du-daa!!!

Maybe it's good because it is strange as you said, it's not the typical music you would hear on Mtv or any other tv channel. There is this cool folklore way of singing and that's probably the reason you find it dated. Of course, you are free to dislike it!
