Gregory Boyd on "The Myth of a Christian Nation" Part 1/3

Back

Charlie Rose interviews Pastor Gregory Boyd on his book, "The Myth of a Christian Nation: How the Quest for Political Power Is Destroying the Church."

Although Boyd is no liberal, he lost one-fifth of his congregation when he preached that the church should steer clear of mixing the gospel with a specific political stance.

Total running time for the 3 parts is 21 minutes.

The Myth is Jesus or the fact that hes a God or humanities savior. This ridicule is senseless. Change the world for Jesus Christ, yeah right. All people who have uttered those words have dangerously changed the world with their own agenda. There is God, but God is indescribable, and too wondrous to even know what it is. We make theories, made from myths, and old ancient beliefs. As far as I'm concerned everyones an atheist cause neither of us believe in Zeus right. All these gods are the same.

AMEN! By our love, not by our Pharisee-political affiliations.

Wow. I never thought I'd see the day. An evangelical Christian pastor preaching, and I, atheist, *agree* with him.

Wow. ... wow. I'm speechless XD

A LOT (maybe even MOST)of us Christians feel the same way as Dr. Boyd, but we don't make the news because the Repubs have made themselves into a denomination, and marketed themselves as the only representatives of true Christianity.

Most of the point of bases lies beyond simple stratigic location, and delves into good will and presence among people. Powerful nations should ALL conduct relations building in other powerful nations.

There is a phrase about McDonalds politics... "those countries with McDonalds do not go to war." It means that those who socialize, trade, and talk do not fight frivolously.

"He [Lincoln] was an avowed and open infidel, and sometimes bordered on atheism. He went further against Christian beliefs and doctrines and principles than any man I have ever heard"-John T. Stuart
"Lighthouses are more helpful than churches"-Ben Franklin "Christianity neither is, nor ever was, a part of the Common Law"-Jefferson
"Gouverneur Morris had often told me that General Washington believed no more of that system [Christianity] than did he himself."-Jefferson (private journal Feb. 1800)

Lincoln never bordered on atheism. Read his speeches, and the fact that he was a deist.
DeadlyChinchilla (November 13, 2008 at 12:16 pm)
I think Aldin quoting John T. Stuart is a little more potent than you 'insisting' otherwise. Yes, Lincoln was a deist, but does a man remain what he is in one moment for his entire life? The point of the quote insinuates a 'leaning', not a permanant 'label.'

Just pointing this out.
